After a long year of moving from town to town, barely escaping death each time, you’ve had enough! You're done with being a pirate. You're finished with that life. You made your fortune, and now it's time to let go...retire. Yes, retire! You're tired of always looking behind your back to see if you've been followed. You didn't exactly part on good terms, after all--you stole all the booty on the ship before you left to live your life of leisure.
But where to retire? A retirement home may be inconspicuous, but you weren't about to go anywhere you couldn't get a good drink. In fact...now that you think about it, that cruise an old friend of yours invited you to seemed like a good idea. You could drink all day, drink all night, and drink again in the morning. And your friend would be there with you! And you certainly thought a cruise would be the last place your old crew would check. Who would be expecting you to still be sailing the high seas, except now with a lot more scallywags surrounding you instead of other pirates?
You decide that yes, a retirement on a cruise sounds perfect. Once onboard, you make your way straight to the bar. You’ve already arranged to meet your companion there. You arrive first and order a Pina Colada. Then a second, and a third.. You start to worry. Where on earth is your old friend? He wouldn't leave you to get smashed all by yourself, would he? Maybe you should check their cabin.
You knock a couple of times, but no response. As you were about to ask a nearby staff member if they’ve seen them around you hear an announcement ‘Attention all crew. Man overboard.’
Oh no. This doesn’t sound good.
You rush to the nearest deck and see a group of people standing around, watching as a couple of crew members retrieve a body from the ocean. Whoever that is...they don’t seem alive.
‘Does anyone know this man? There’s no ID on the body.’
You push through the crowd to take a look.
No. It can’t be. That...that’s your friend! Did they...jump? Fall? Or maybe...they were pushed?
You suddenly start to feel dizzy. You don’t know if it’s because of the margaritas or the fact that death seems to follow you everywhere you go. Well, no, it was probably definitely because of the mojitos. Now that your friend was gone, you felt an urge to look into what exactly had caused them to die. Nobody knew you were here, right? Nobody was targeting you? Nobody would be coming here to reclaim the treasure you stole?
You decided to get another drink. With any luck, you'd be able to start your retirement today. But you had a feeling deep in your bones that it wouldn't be as smooth as you had hoped.
