What is Devil’s Nest?
Devil's Nest is a rendition of Mafia, a game in which the players are divided into teams (or factions) and must decide as a group who to exile (or lynch) from the group until only one team remains. Typically, the two teams are a relatively small Mafia group, and the much larger Town group. Given that the Town starts as the vast majority of the players, this would be a one-sided game were it not for how the Town players are not aware of who the other Townies are. As a result, the Mafia can try to blend in with the Town and sway the majority vote onto Townies, hoping to turn the Town against itself until the Mafia controls the majority vote and therefore the game.
What are alignments?
Alignments determine your allies and enemies in Devil’s Nest. There are three alignments: Town, Mafia and Neutral. Neutrals can be further divided into two sub-alignments: True Neutrals and Scum Neutrals.
How do I win?
The Mafia’s goal is to kill the members of all other factions. The Town’s win condition is to rid the Town of all Scum, this includes all members of the Mafia and Scum Neutrals. Neutrals have varying goals in the game, as a general rule, True Neutrals have their own win conditions whilst Scum Neutrals can only win on their own.
What are roles?
At the start of the game, you will be given a role that determines your alignment, win condition, and abilities.
This sounds awesome! Where do I sign?
First off, there are three things we require from players.
Activity: User interaction is the bread-and-butter of this game so we’re mainly looking for users who are willing to keep up with and generate activity. The game has a pace that constantly ramps up as more and more authentic (and fake!) information surfaces and the tension rises. If you’re interested in playing, we expect you to be able to check the thread/server and contribute at least a few times per day.
Discord: As noted above, Discord is unfortunately mandatory in this iteration of the game. Public discussions will be held on-site, and until Flarum supports private messaging on-site as well, submission of night actions and private group chats will take place on our Discord server. Click here to join.
Integrity: Refrain from talking with other players about the game outside of the game. Don’t grief or sell your teammates out, and abstain from cheating or metagaming to get an edge.
For those who find all this interesting but aren’t sure on whether you can commit, you can ask to be drafted as a Spectator, or as a Substitute in case someone (inevitably) goes missing. For those willing to take plunge, you can find games to join in the Sign-ups tab.
